There are no translations available.

Organic photovoltaics, the efficiency of cell Heliatek one step from 10%

film_sottile12New milestone for the third generation photovoltaics, based on the development of organic solar cells, flexible and translucent. The German Heliatek, a leader in this field that opens new frontiers for the exploitation of solar energy, announced a new record for its efficiency tandem cell (ie, consists of two overlapping cells), which has almost reached the threshold of "psychological" of 10%.

From Sharp's new efficiency record for triple-junction cells

E-mail Print PDF
cella_fvThe Japanese company Sharp, one of the world's largest producers of solar cells, through its own press release has announced that it has reached in recent days an ambitious record in solar cell efficiency with its approximately 36.9%. This milestone was reached by means of the so-called photovoltaic cell technologies such as triple-junction with Sharp, several years ago, had achieved the remarkable result of 35.9% efficiency. This particular tipoligia cell consists essentially of three layers, one in the upper part is made of indium phosphide and gallium, the middle of gallium arsenide and what is the most inveriore indium arsenide and gallium, the whole supported on a backing layer of silicon.

Now solar cells ..... printing

E-mail Print PDF
alan_j_heegerThe photovoltaic devices based on organic materials can be manufactured with relatively simple processes and are extensively studied in university laboratories and industry for a good chance to trigger the mass production of cheap and flexible devices. The photovoltaic cells are less efficient than silicon, but much cheaper to produce. The organic materials (polymers or so-called "small molecules" consisting of low molecular weight organic compounds) can be prepared in the form of ink and "printed" on large surfaces, they are light and flexible, which makes them promising for many applications.

PoliMi the new research center for next-generation PV

E-mail Print PDF
giovanni_azzoneThe Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Polytechnic of Milan have opened the Center for Nano Science and Technology of IIT @ PoliMi. The new laboratories are part of the network of integrated and multidisciplinary research centers, built by IIT as a key tool to develop a profitable system of relations in the country with some of the main Italian research organizations and promote a scientific project as ambitious as the 2009 Science Plan -2011. In particular, the Center for Nano Science and Technology of IIT @ PoliMi Institute will be a point of reference with regard to two of the seven platforms of the Plan of IIT Science: Energy and Smart Materials.

Germany-US collaboration on next-generation PV

E-mail Print PDF
dan_arvizuThe Department of Energy National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the German Helmholtz Association, are ready to give birth to a fruitful collaboration. The two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that identifies some key issues of joint research, aimed at accelerating the development of next-generation photovoltaics.
